Disappearing metabolic youthfulness in the cognitively impaired female brain

چکیده

Sex differences play a vital role in human brain structure and physiology. Previous reports have proposed evidence hinting at metabolic advantage female brains across adulthood. It remained to be determined whether this would maintained the spectrum of cognitive impairment, up including dementia due Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here, using machine-learning algorithm, we explore sex brain-age derived from fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography imaging among cognitively healthy individuals those affected by mild impairment clinically probable AD. First, report that male participants showed persistently “older” looking when compared term age, confirming earlier reports. However, distinction disappeared MCI AD patients, loss could not explained an accompanying neurodegeneration. This seem indicate females higher rate decline glucose metabolism impaired negate their prior advantage.

Assessing pain in cognitively impaired older adults.

BACKGROUND Accurate assessments of pain help healthcare professionals to identify its source and manage it appropriately. Pain in cognitively impaired older adults is difficult to assess and this can result in poor management and outcomes.
